for the ISMS Annual Conference 2018

Military Sciences and Future Security Challenges”

Warsaw October 18th -19th 2018

The ISMS Council officially approved the will of the War Studies University in Warsaw to host the next ISMS conference, and therefore we are pleased to announce that ISMS Conference 2018 will be organized in Warsaw on October 18-19, 2018.

The ISMS Conference 2018 will be an extraordinary event since it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of ISMS. Therefore, the conference will provide both our traditional scientific debate and the festive anniversary celebration.

After intensive debate, the ISMS Council summarized previous experiences and formulated recommendations and future guidelines for the Society. Among other things, the Council recommended that the organizers of the ISMS Conference 2018 concentrate its debate on the essence of military science – hence the “Military Sciences and Future Security Challenges” theme.

Military sciences are understood to be interdisciplinary, embracing natural, mathematical, social sciences and humanities. The aim of the conference is to debate a common body of knowledge for the military profession, and to serve as a support work for shaping military sciences. We will look for contributions to the discussion from members of each of the ISMS institutions and working groups. In addition, we invite everyone who is willing to debate and present their research. We hope that this will contribute to a better understanding of the essence and content of Military Science.

This does not mean, however, that we intend to narrow the wide range of issues debated within the working groups of the ISMS. It only means that this time we devote more attention to issues related to the theme of the conference.

The organizers are calling for academic abstracts and full papers under the theme Military Sciences and Future Security Challenges.

1)    Guidelines for submitting abstracts

Ideally, each abstract should provide valuable scientific insight for the international community of military professionals and scholars. The ISMS 2018 Conference would also like to promote rigorous academic writing, and thus the submitted abstracts must be 500 – 1,200 words in length. The abstracts should be submitted in MS Word format, using the font Times New Roman and font size 12. All abstracts will undergo a review process, and authors will be notified whether their abstract has been accepted for the Conference.

 2)    Guidelines for submitting full papers

It is also possible to submit a full-fledged academic paper. We encourage you to present your research and reflection results in Security and Defense Quarterly.

Security and Defence Quarterly is an international refereed open-access journal  that is dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of theory, research and practice in the field of security and defence on a state, regional and global scale.

The journal was established by the National Defence University (presently War Studies University) in order to promote international dissemination of knowledge through publication of scientific research carried out at the universities affiliated to the Central European Forum on Military Education (CEFME). Nowadays, Security and Defence Quarterly is based at War Studies University, Warsaw and indexed in Index Copernicus International. Each paper published in Security and Defence Quarterly is assigned a DOI® number, which appears beneath the author's affiliation in the published paper. We invite the submission of research papers, theoretical articles, reviews, case studies, and reports that are related to security and defence issues.

Full papers will undergo a review process and papers accepted will be published gradually according to the time of their delivery having regard to the period required for publishing procedure.

Full papers must be written in accordance with author guidelines given on the journal’s homepage here: and

Authors of full papers will be informed progressively whether they have been accepted for publication.

We will gradually pass on more details.
